MILWAUKEE - Marian University scored both of
its goals within a five-minute span in the second half to defeat
Wisconsin Lutheran College 2-0 Saturday afternoon at Warrior Field
in a Northern Athletics Conference game.
Wisconsin Lutheran, despite being out-shot 22-3 in the first
half, played to a scoreless halftime tie with Marian. Senior
goalkeeper Katie Sloan (Omaha, Neb./Nebraska Lutheran) kept the
Sabres off the scoreboard by making 10 saves.
The Sabres struck twice in the second half, first at 55 minutes,
and followed with another score in the 60th minute. Kim Kriese, the
NAC's all-time scoring leader, netted both goals for the Sabres.
The first came off of a penalty kick, while the latter was
unassisted. WLC closed the gap in second-half shot attempts as it
was out-shot only 12-7.
Niki DiSalvo (Waterford, Wis./Waterford), Mel Lemke (Brookfield,
Wis./Central), Maggie Smith (Elkhorn, Wis./Elkhorn) and Cari
Westover (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) had two shots each for the
Warriors. Sloan concluded the contest with 17 saves.
Kriese finished with a game-high 12 of Marian's 34 shot
attempts. Tiffany Erdman made six saves in the net for the Sabres
(6-4, 5-2 NAC).
Wisconsin Lutheran (4-9, 1-5 NAC) plays the third game of its
four-game homestand Tuesday, October 5 when it hosts Alverno
College (3-6, 0-4 NAC) at 7 p.m. at Warrior Field in a NAC
matchup.
