MILWAUKEE - In what can be described as a
goaltender's game, the Warriors lost a heartbreaker Saturday
afternoon at Warrior Field to the Lakeland College Muskies,
allowing the game's only goal with just nine seconds left in the
second overtime period
Wisconsin Lutheran out-shot the Muskies in the first half 11-10
as both teams had great chances, but all were turned away by some
stellar goalkeeping.
WLC senior goalkeeper Katie Sloan (Omaha, Neb./Nebraska
Lutheran) made 13 saves throughout the game, including several
point-blank chances. Lakeland's goalie, Ashley Sarbacker, also was
responsible for turning away plenty of WLC scoring opportunities.
She made 15 saves on the day while facing 27 saves.
The Muskies were outshot 24-19 at the end of the second half but
managed to get seven shots off in the two overtime periods compared
to three for the Warriors.
Looking like the game would end in a scoreless tie, LC's Lindsay
Rogers broke loose from the defense and dented the net with only
nine seconds remaining in the second overtime for the
game-winner.
Freshman Maggie Smith (Elkhorn, Wis./Elkhorn) led the Warriors
with 10 shots, three of them on goal. Freshman Niki DiSalvo
(Waterford, Wis./Waterford) also had eight shots, hitting the net
seven times.
Wisconsin Lutheran (4-11, 1-7 NAC) will face the Concordia
University Chicago Cougars (0-10, 0-6 NAC) Wednesday, October 13 at
1:30 p.m. in River Forest, Ill.
