MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
softball team opened its home schedule by falling to the Carroll
University Pioneers 8-3 on Friday afternoon in the first game of a
non-conference doubleheader at a cold and windy Warrior Field.
The Pioneers scored the game's first run in the third inning
after Amanda Strutz reached base on an error to lead off and later
scored on an RBI single. Wisconsin Lutheran took the lead back in
the bottom of the third by scoring three runs. After the first two
batters of the inning were sent down in order, six straight
Warriors followed by reaching base safely. Junior Katie Sloan
(Omaha, Neb./Nebraska Lutheran), sophomore Stephanie Sack (Granger,
Ind./Michigan Lutheran) and sophomore Morgan Dittmar (Oostburg,
Wis./Manitowoc Lutheran) contributed RBIs in the frame for WLC.
Visiting Carroll grabbed the lead back, 6-3, in the next half
inning by plating five runs on five hits. Four of the five runs
scored in the frame were unearned. CU added its final two runs of
the game in the seventh for the 8-3 win.
Sloan paced the Warriors at the plate by going 3-for-4 with an
RBI. Senior Jenny Boelk (Fond du Lac, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran)
added two hits and a run scored in three at-bats. Freshman Katie
Timm (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) evened her mark to 2-2 on the season
in the circle. Timm threw 3.2 innings and allowed six runs, just
one earned, on six hits. She struck out four while walking
three.
Christine Roggemann was 2-for-5 with an RBI to lead the Pioneers
(4-5). She also picked up the victory in the circle after tossing a
complete game. Roggemann gave up nine hits and three runs, all
earned, while fanning three.
Wisconsin Lutheran (2-5) hosts Carroll in the second game of its
non-conference doubleheader on Friday at 5 p.m. at Warrior
Field.
