MILWAUKEE - Wisconsin Lutheran put together a
combined effort to bounce back from its game one defeat and claim a
6-2 victory over the Carroll University Pioneers on Friday in the
second game of a non-conference doubleheader at Warrior Field.
Freshman Kayla Peterson (Lewiston, Minn./Lewiston-Altura) put
the Warriors up 1-0 in the second when she drove in sophomore
Maggie Mueller (Campbellsport, Wis./Campbellsport), who doubled
earlier in the inning, on an RBI groundout. Carroll tied the score
at 1-1 in the bottom of the inning after compiling four hits, but
stranded the bases loaded as the inning came to an end.
WLC broke the tied ballgame the next inning by plating three
runs on three hits. Sophomore Stephanie Sack (Granger,
Ind./Michigan Lutheran) drove in a pair on an RBI double and
Mueller followed with a run-scoring single.
After both clubs were retired in order in the fourth, junior
Katie Sloan (Omaha, Neb./Nebraska Lutheran) led off the WLC fifth
with a solo home run to left center for a 5-2 advantage. The
Warriors had their final run cross the plate in the sixth when
freshman Katie Timm (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) singled home
Mueller.
Mueller finished 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and two runs
scored for Wisconsin Lutheran. Timm, Sloan and Lauren Mantz (West
Bend, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) added two hits each. Senior
Jenny Boelk (Fond du Lac, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran) pitched all 7.0
innings to earn the complete-game victory, her first of the season.
She allowed two runs over eight hits and struck out four.
Marquea McClentathan and Maggie Shaffer had two hits apiece for
the Pioneers (4-6). Aimee Ambrose gave up six runs on 11 hits in
the circle to take the loss for CU.
Wisconsin Lutheran (3-5) will begin its Northern Athletics
Conference schedule on Wednesday when it travels to River Forest,
Ill., to face the Dominican University Stars. First pitch is
scheduled for 3 p.m.
