Box Score Box score

MILWAUKEE - The WLC softball team dropped the first game of a Northern Athletics Conference doubleheader to the Marian University Sabres by a final score of 2-0 on Saturday afternoon at Warrior Field.

The Sabres played small ball, scoring a run on one hit in the first inning, for the early 1-0 lead. WLC was retired in order in its first four innings before sophomore Maggie Mueller (Campbellsport, Wis./Campbellsport) became the first runner to reach base in the fifth when she was hit by a pitch.

Marian went in front 2-0 in the sixth on an RBI double by Maria Archie. The Warriors threatened in the sixth by loading the bases after two outs on back-to-back singles and a walk, but junior Katie Sloan (Omaha, Neb./Nebraska Lutheran) flew out to center to end the inning.

Senior Jenny Boelk (Fond du Lac, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran) and freshman Katie Timm (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) each went 1-for-3 for the Warriors. Boelk also went the distance in the circle, surrendering two runs on five hits (1-6).

Emilie Jansen and Maria Archie had two hits each for the Sabres (10-4, 3-0 NAC). Jansen also scored both of Marian's runs. Jamie Whitehead tossed 7.0 scoreless innings, while allowing two hits and striking out six to pick up the win (2-0).

Wisconsin Lutheran (3-12, 0-7 NAC) hosts the Sabres in the second game of its doubleheader on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Warrior Field.
