Marian blanks WLC in six innings to complete sweep

MILWAUKEE - Wisconsin Lutheran College lost the second game of its Northern Athletics Conference doubleheader to Marian University on Saturday afternoon 9-0 in a run-rule shortened six innings at Warrior Field.

Following a scoreless first inning from both teams, Marian scored three runs on three hits in the second for a 3-0 lead. Two of the Sabres' runs in the frame were unearned.

Marian plated two more runs in the fourth off a solo home run and an RBI groundout for a 5-0 advantage. The Sabres scored another in the fifth and three in the seventh to account for their nine runs.

Senior Jenny Boelk (Fond du Lac, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran), freshman Katie Timm (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) and sophomore Morgan Dittmar (Oostburg, Wis./Manitowoc Lutheran) each registered a hit for the Warriors.

Emily Boehnlein paced the Sabres (11-4, 4-0 NAC) by going 2-for-5 with four RBIs and a run scored. Cherise Waltz tossed 6.0 scoreless innings and allowed just three hits while fanning four.

Wisconsin Lutheran (3-13, 0-8 NAC) hosts Edgewood College on Sunday in a NAC doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. at Warrior Field.
