MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran Warriors
dropped the second game of their Sunday afternoon Northern
Athletics Conference doubleheader with the Edgewood Eagles by a
final of 5-1 at Warrior Field.
The Eagles benefited from two first-inning walks, while being
held without a hit, to take a 1-0 lead on an RBI groundout. The
score remained 1-0 until the fourth when EC tallied another run,
which was unearned on another RBI groundout.
The Warriors plated their only run of the game in the bottom of
the fourth to bring their deficit to 2-1. WLC loaded the bases with
two outs after hits from sophomore Morgan Dittmar (Oostburg,
Wis./Manitowoc Lutheran) and freshman Lauren Mantz (West Bend,
Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) and a Katie Sloan (Omaha,
Neb./Nebraska Lutheran) walk. Dittmar later crossed home plate on a
passed ball.
Edgewood extended its lead to 5-2 in the fifth by scoring three
runs, all unearned, on three hits. WLC had a runner reach base in
the fifth and two in the sixth, but was unable to bring either of
them around to score.
Mantz led the Warriors by going 2-for-4 at the dish, while
Dittmar added WLC's third hit. Freshman Katie Timm (Franklin,
Wis./Franklin) gave up five runs, but just one earned, in 7.0
innings of work (2-6). She struck out nine and walked four.
Jessica Spitzer and Colleen Joyce each went 2-for-4 with an RBI
and a run scored for the Eagles (6-8, 4-2 NAC). Claire Blake
improved to 4-4 on the season after picking up the complete-game
win in the circle. She gave up just one run, unearned, on three
hits while fanning three.
