ROCKFORD, Ill. - Wisconsin Lutheran capitalized
on six Rockford College errors to collect an 11-3 five-inning
victory, its first NAC win of the season, and give head coach
Rachel Kuehl her 100th career coaching victory on Wednesday in game
two of a NAC doubleheader at Smith Athletic Field.
WLC jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second when freshman Kayla
Peterson (Lewiston, Minn./Lewiston-Altura) and junior Laura Konop
(Germantown, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) scored on Regents'
errors. Peterson and Konop reached base on a single and a walk
earlier in the inning, respectively.
An RBI double by RC's Nicole Lawler that plated Aletha
Cunningham in the bottom of the frame cut the Warriors' lead to
2-1. WLC made it a 4-1 advantage in the third when freshman Lauren
Mantz (West Bend, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) belted an RBI
double that scored freshman Katie Timm (Franklin, Wis./Franklin).
Mantz later stole home for the second run of the inning.
Rockford continued to hang around by scoring two more runs in
its half of the third on RBIs from Jackie Vensel and Aria Ruotsi. A
two-out RBI double by sophomore Morgan Dittmar (Oostburg,
Wis./Manitowoc Lutheran) in the fourth provided WLC with a 5-3
lead.
The Warriors put the game out of reach in the sixth by plating
six runs on five hits while also taking advantage of three RC
errors. Junior Katie Sloan (Omaha, Neb./Nebraska Lutheran) led off
the inning with a solo home run and sophomore Maggie Mueller
(Campbellsport, Wis./Campbellsport), Dittmar and Mantz also added
RBIs in the frame. WLC held Rockford scoreless in the bottom of the
fifth to win via run-rule.
Konop, Mantz, Timm, Mueller and senior Jenny Boelk (Fond du Lac,
Wis./Winnebago Lutheran) each had two hits in the game for the
Warriors. Konop scored three runs, while Timm scored twice. Dittmar
and Mantz added a pair of RBIs each. Timm allowed just three runs
and six hits in 5.0 innings of work to pickup the victory (3-6).
She fanned four batters and walked just one.
Six different players had one hit each for account for all of
Regents' (4-16, 4-8 NAC) hits. Cunningham gave up 11 runs, five
earned, and 13 hits to take the loss (4-16). She struck out five
with one walk.
Wisconsin Lutheran (4-16, 1-11 NAC) hosts the MSOE Raiders on
