MILWAUKEE - The WLC softball team was narrowly
defeated by the Milwaukee School of Engineering Raiders 3-2 on
Saturday afternoon in game one of a Northern Athletics Conference
doubleheader at Warrior Field.
The Warriors stranded a runner at third base in each of the
first two innings and went into the third scoreless with the
Raiders. MSOE tallied back-to-back one-out RBI hits in the frame to
go in front 2-0. The Raiders received their RBIs from Elise
Pinkerton and Jess Iverson.
Following a scoreless fourth, the Raiders added a run on an RBI
single from Lianna Campos in the fifth for a 3-0 lead. WLC closed
within a run in its half of the sixth when Katie Timm's (Franklin,
Wis./Franklin) fielder's choice RBI plated Jenny Boelk (Fond du
Lac, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran). Timm accounted for the team's second
run when she later scored on a wild pitch.
Each club recorded a single during their respective half innings
of the seventh, but couldn't cross a run home.
Five Warriors, Boelk, Maggie Mueller (Campbellsport,
Wis./Campbellsport), Morgan Dittmar (Oostburg, Wis./Manitowoc
Lutheran), Katie Sloan (Omaha, Neb./Nebraska Lutheran) and
Stephanie Sack (Granger, Ind./Michigan Lutheran), each had a hit in
the game. Boelk tossed 4.2 innings, surrendering three runs on six
hits to take the loss (1-9). The senior fanned four and walked
three.
Campos finished 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Raiders (8-7, 4-5
NAC). Iverson (7-7) pitched 7.0 complete innings, allowing two runs
on five hits while striking out seven.
Wisconsin Lutheran (4-17, 1-12 NAC) will seek a split with MSOE
when the two teams meet again on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the second
game of their doubleheader at Warrior Field.
