MILWAUKEE - Wisconsin Lutheran College scored
five runs in the fourth inning to overcome an early three-run
deficit to go on and defeat the MSOE Raiders 11-6 in game two of
Saturday's Northern Athletics Conference doubleheader at Warrior
Field.
MSOE plated a pair of quick runs to start the game, but the
Warriors countered to score two runs of their own in the bottom of
the first to knot the game at 2-2. Katie Timm (Franklin,
Wis./Franklin) and Morgan Dittmar (Oostburg, Wis./Manitowoc
Lutheran) each tallied RBIs for the hosts.
Following the only scoreless frame of the game in the second,
MSOE gained a 5-2 advantage when Jess Iverson and Rebecca Gardner
had run-scoring hits. WLC inched closer in its half of the third
when Jenny Boelk (Fond du Lac, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran) scored from
third after Maggie Mueller (Campbellsport, Wis./Campbellsport) was
caught stealing second.
Wisconsin Lutheran overcame its deficit to grab the lead for
good in the fourth by plating five runs on four hits. WLC received
RBIs from Ashley Zautner (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie), Laura
Konop (Germantown, Wis./Germantown), Mueller and Dittmar.
The Raiders plated their final tally in the fifth after Julia
Windish, who led off with a double, reached home on an error. In
the bottom of the fifth, Konop's two-run single that scored
Stephanie Sack (Granger, Ind./Michigan Lutheran) and Katie Sloan
(Omaha, Neb./Nebraska Lutheran) put the Warriors up 10-6.
WLC added its final run in the sixth when Mueller, who began the
inning with a triple, scored on a Timm groundout.
Mueller and Sack recorded three hits each to pace the Warriors
at the plate, while Boelk and Dittmar added a pair of hits. Konop
added three RBIs. Timm, who also drove in two runs, picked up her
fourth win (4-6) of the season in the circle. The freshman allowed
five earned runs on six hits in all 7.0 innings of work. She struck
out four and walked two.
Windish went 2-for-3 with three runs scored to lead the Raiders
(8-8, 4-6 NAC). Iverson allowed 11 runs on 13 hits in 6.0 innings
to suffer the loss (7-8).
Wisconsin Lutheran (5-17, 2-12 NAC) caps off its week tomorrow
with a NAC doubleheader against cross-town foe Alverno College.
First pitch between the Warriors and Inferno is set for 12 p.m. at
Alverno Field.
