MILWAUKEE - The Lakeland College Muskies scored
eight of their 11 runs in the fourth and fifth inning to shutout
Wisconsin Lutheran College 11-0 on Tuesday in the first game of a
Northern Athletics Conference softball doubleheader at Warrior
Field.
The Muskies scored two unearned runs with two outs in the top of
the first inning to grab an early lead. After a scoreless second,
back-to-back triples in the third gave LC a 3-0 advantage. Lakeland
broke open its lead in the fourth by scoring six runs off of four
hits, and followed with its final two tallies in the fifth on a
pair of hits.
The Warriors tried to keep the game alive in the last of the
fifth with two singles, but both runners were left on base as the
game ended after the innings due to run rule.
Senior Jenny Boelk (Fond du Lac, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran) was
2-for-3 to pace the Warriors at the plate. Junior Katie Sloan
(Omaha, Neb./Nebraska Lutheran) and sophomores Morgan Dittmar
(Oostburg, Wis./Manitowoc Lutheran) and Stephanie Sack (Granger,
Ind./Michigan Lutheran) each added a hit to account for WLC's five
in the contest. Freshman Katie Timm (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) took
the loss (5-7) after giving up 11 runs, nine of which were earned,
in 5.0 innings of work. She struck out four and walked five.
Chelsea Coenen went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs
for the Muskies (18-9, 11-2 NAC). Jenny LaLuzerne also went 2-for-4
with three RBIs and scored a run for LC. Sara Roberts allowed zero
runs on just five hits to notch her 14th win (14-5) of the season
in the circle.
Wisconsin Lutheran (6-19, 3-14 NAC) and Lakeland will square off
in the second game of their NAC doubleheader on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
at Warrior Field.
