MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran softball
team carried a 3-1 lead into the fifth inning, but Lakeland College
rallied for five runs to take a lead that it wouldn't relinquish,
winning game two of the NAC doubleheader 6-4 on Tuesday at Warrior
Field.
The Warriors took charge early, scoring three runs in the bottom
of the first inning. WLC finished with three hits in the frame and
received RBIs from Katie Sloan (Omaha, Neb./Nebraska Lutheran),
Katie Timm (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) and Maggie Mueller
(Campbellsport, Wis./Campbellsport).
WLC carried its 3-0 lead into the fourth inning before Lakeland
scored its first run of the game. LC added five runs on five hits
the next inning, keyed by a Sara Roberts three-run home run, to
jump in front 6-3. WLC kept the Muskies off the scoreboard for the
final two frames, but had its two-out rally in the seventh fall
short as the potential tying run was unable to reach base.
Sloan finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored for the
Warriors. Boelk and Mueller each went 2-for-3. Boelk also received
a no-decision after she pitched the first 4.0 innings, surrendering
three runs and fanning four. Kayla Peterson (Lewiston,
Minn./Lewiston-Altura) was handed the loss (0-3) in 3.0 innings of
relief work.
Lakeland (19-9, 12-2 NAC) received two hits each from Chelsea
Coenen and Erin Henk. Sara Roberts added three RBIs. Henk pitched
7.0 innings in relief to pickup the win (2-1) after starter Cassie
Felton was unable to retire a batter in the first inning.
Wisconsin Lutheran (6-20, 3-15 NAC) continues its season-long
six-game homestand on Thursday by hosting Finlandia University in a
non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. at Warrior
Field.
