CHICAGO - The North Park University Vikings
collected a 9-0 shutout win over Wisconsin Lutheran College on
Wednesday in the first game of a non-conference softball
doubleheader at the Holmgren Complex.
After the Warriors were held scoreless in the top of the first
inning, the Vikings used two hits, a sacrifice and two stolen bases
to take a 2-0 lead. In the next inning, NPU went ahead 6-0 on
behalf of three hits, a walk and a sacrifice.
WLC kept North Park off of the scoreboard in the third as the
Warriors found themselves still trailing by six runs. The Vikings
scored their final three runs of the game in the fourth off of
three hits, a walk and error for the final 9-0 margin in five
innings.
Freshman Katie Timm (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) and sophomore
Stephanie Sack (Granger, Ind./Michigan Lutheran) were the only
Warriors to reach base in the game. Timm walked in the second and
Sack reached on an error in the fifth. Timm allowed nine earned
runs in 4.0 innings of work to take the loss (7-8) in the circle
for WLC. She both fanned and walked three batters.
North Park (18-18) was paced at the plate by Jessica Abezetian,
Annalis Matta and Katie Anderson, who tallied two hits and scored
two runs each. Anderson drove in three with a three run home run in
the second. Kate Seebacher threw a complete-game no-hit shutout to
pick up the win (13-14). She struck out six and walked one.
Wisconsin Lutheran (9-22) will battle the Vikings again in the
second game of a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday at 6
p.m.
