Concordia Chicago (5-17, 4-2 NAC) scored five runs in the first
two innings and it was just enough for the Cougars as they
outlasted the Warriors (3-11, 0-6 NAC) 6-4 in game two of a NAC
doubleheader at Grace Diamond Thursday.
CUC jumped on Wisconsin Lutheran freshman starter Katie Timm
(Franklin, Wis./Franklin) early and took a 5-0 lead after scoring
four runs on four hits in the second inning.
WLC answered with two runs of its own in the third inning with
RBI singles from Timm and freshman Lauren Mantz (West Bend,
Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran). Runs were scored by Ashley Zautner
(Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) and Laura Konop (Germantown,
Wis./Germantown), who walked and singled, respectively, earlier in
the inning.
Timm settled down and allow just one run on four hits for the
final 4.0 innings to keep Wisconsin Lutheran in the game.
Timm hit an RBI single in the fifth inning, which scored Konop,
and singled and scored in the seventh for the comeback effort, but
it was not quite enough.
Timm finished 3-for-4 in the game with two RBIs and a run scored.
Konop was also 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Sami DeFord came in relief for starter, Cassie Slechta, and
earned the victory (5-10) by tossing the final 4.0 innings, giving
up one earned run on three hits. She struck out six and walked
one.
Timm took the loss (2-4), allowing five earned runs, 10 hits,
striking out two and walking none.
Michelle Ciric and Caitlen Richards had two RBIs apiece for the
Cougars.
WLC hosts Marian in a noon NAC doubleheader Saturday, April 10
