MILWAUKEE - Senior Jenny Boelk (Fond du Lac,
Wis./Winnebago Lutheran) allowed only two hits over 5.0 shutout
innings on Saturday as Wisconsin Lutheran College defeated
Maranatha Baptist Bible College 9-0 in the first game of a Northern
Athletics Conference doubleheader at Warrior Field.
Wisconsin Lutheran took an early 2-0 lead over Maranatha with
two runs in the first inning. Sophomore Maggie Mueller
(Campbellsport, Wis./Campbellsport) and freshman Lauren Mantz (West
Bend, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) each tallied RBIs for the
Warriors in the opening frame.
WLC extended its lead to 7-0 in the second by plating five runs
on four hits. The Warriors received run-scoring hits from junior
Laura Konop (Germantown, Wis./Germantown), Mueller, junior Katie
Sloan (Omaha, Neb./Nebraska Lutheran) and a two-run home run from
sophomore Morgan Dittmar (Oostburg, Wis./Manitowoc Lutheran), her
team-leading fourth of the season.
After Wisconsin Lutheran's only scoreless inning of the game in
the third, the host Warriors made it 9-0 in the fourth after an RBI
groundout from Mantz and a wild pitch that scored Dittmar.
Boelk, who struck out six in 5.0 innings, retired the Crusaders
in order in the fifth and the game was called due to run-rule.
Mueller finished 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored to
pace the Warriors at the plate. Four others had one hit in the game
for WLC. Dittmar and Mantz also had a pair of RBIs, while Sloan and
Dittmar scored two runs each.
Autumn Peotter and Lindsey Miller were credited with the
Crusaders' only two hits in the contest.
Wisconsin Lutheran (10-23, 5-16 NAC) will host Maranatha (3-29,
0-23 NAC) in its final home game of the season on Saturday at 2
p.m. at Warrior Field.
