AURORA, Ill. - Wisconsin Lutheran College
dropped its final game of the 2010 season to the Aurora University
Spartans by a final score of 8-0 on Sunday in game two of a
Northern Athletics Conference softball doubleheader at Stuart
Sportsplex.
The Spartans got on the board first in the bottom of the second
inning by using two hits and a passed ball to take a 1-0 lead.
Aurora scored three more runs in the third on five hits and an
error to jump ahead 4-0. The Warriors were held scoreless again and
AU scored four more times in the fourth on five hits and an error
for a score of 8-0. The game was called after 4.5 innings due to
run rule.
WLC junior Katie Sloan (Omaha, Neb./Nebraska Lutheran) tallied
the only hit for the Warriors in the game, a single in the fourth
inning. Senior Jenny Boelk (Fond du Lac, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran)
gave up four earned runs in 3.2 innings of work to suffer the loss
(3-11). Freshman Kayla Peterson (Lewiston, Minn./Lewiston-Altura)
pitched the final .1 of an inning in relief for WLC.
Coryn Hill led the Spartans (32-7, 22-2 NAC), the NAC
Tournament's second seed, with three hits in the contest. Tristan
Wilcox, Maggie Cooper and Shannon Starr added two hits apiece.
Lindsay Decker threw a complete-game one-hit shutout to earn the
win (8-1). She struck out eight without walking a batter.
Wisconsin Lutheran finishes its 2010 season with an 11-25
overall record, which includes a 6-18 mark in the Northern
Athletics Conference. The Warriors will lose two seniors, Boelk
and Ashley Zautner (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie), from their
roster.
