Strong second half sends MSOE over WLC

MILWAUKEE - The MSOE Raiders broke open a scoreless halftime tie by scoring five second-half goals to defeat Wisconsin Lutheran 5-0 Saturday afternoon in a Northern Athletics Conference matchup at Time Warner Cable Stadium.

The contest was knotted 0-0 at intermission after the Warriors attempted a pair of shots in the first half, opposed to nine for the host Raiders.

MSOE's Jordan Werner scored the game's first goal off an assist by Dan Hosko at 50:47. The second goal came in the 62nd minute when Patrick Gathof scored from Hosko's second assist. MSOE did not let up, scoring its third goal in the 72nd minute when Werner assisted Danny Kolokoski. Rafael Arndt netted MSOE's fourth goal on a penalty kick at 78:03 and Paul Stimpson tallied the Raiders' final score in the 89th minute of the match, sealing a 5-0 win for the hosts (2-4, 2-0 NAC).

Senior Chris Lorig (Crete, Ill./Illinois Lutheran) made seven saves in the net for the Warriors, allowing three goals. Freshman goalkeeper Jon Stewart (Waukesha, Wis./South) also saw action in the game. Trevor Schwartz (Lake Geneva, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) and Jake Parnau (Milwaukee, Wis./Greendale) each recorded two shots to lead the WLC attack.

The Raiders were paced by Jimmy Burns' four shots, while goalkeeper Jon Cerny made two saves to earn the shutout.

Wisconsin Lutheran (0-7-1, 0-1 NAC) returns to Warrior Field this week for a pair of back-to-back 7 p.m. non-conference tilts. The Warriors host Carroll University Wednesday, before taking on Finlandia University Thursday.
