MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
volleyball team topped host Milwaukee School of Engineering, Mount
Mary College and Marian University Saturday afternoon in
non-conference action to finish with an unblemished 3-0 record at
the MSOE Quad.
The Warriors began quadrangular play by defeating the host MSOE
Raiders 3-1 by match scores of 23-25, 25-13, 25-20 and 25-13.
Wisconsin Lutheran received double-doubles from four players in the
non-conference victory as freshman Erin Greenfield (Wauwatosa,
Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran), freshman Mariah Bukiewicz (Oak Creek,
Wis./Oak Creek), junior Jenna Neuberger (Muskego, Wis./Wisconsin
Lutheran) and sophomore Brittanny Bahr (Caledonia, Wis./Shoreland
Lutheran) all eclipsed the feat.
Johnson (15 kills), Bahr (21 assists) and freshman Kayla
Ridgeman (Jefferson, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) (19 digs) posted team
highs for WLC. The Warriors hit .204 for the game, while holding
MSOE (3-13) to just .007 on 27 attack errors.
In its second match of the afternoon, Wisconsin Lutheran claimed
a 25-19, 25-7, 25-21 sweep over Mount Mary College. Sophomore
Stephanie Pankratz (Fond du Lac, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran) posted a
match-high 10 kills for WLC. Bukiewicz handed out 22 assists and
freshman Heather Tompkins (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Kettle Moraine
Lutheran) added 14 digs. Freshman Kelli Johnson (Milwaukee,
Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) tallied eight total blocks (4 solo, 8
assist). Mount Mary (2-9) ended the match with more hitting errors
(24) than kills (14).
The Warriors concluded their day with a 3-0 sweep over Marian
University, winning 25-14, 25-20 and 25-11. Johnson and
senior Erika Laete (Spokane, Wash./Evergreen Lutheran) had 12 kills
apiece to pace WLC. Bukiewicz and Bahr dished out 24 and 17
assists, respectively, while Neuberger and Ridgeman contributed
with 14 digs each. Marian (5-12) hit just .031 for the match, while
the Warriors hit an afternoon-high .270.
Wisconsin Lutheran (10-6, 1-2 NAC) hosts Rockford College
Tuesday, September 28 in Northern Athletics Conference action at 7
p.m. at the Recreation Complex.
