Falcons score twice in second half to edge Warriors

MEQUON, Wis. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College men's soccer team fought valiantly, but was defeated by the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons 2-0 on Saturday afternoon in a Northern Athletics Conference game at Fitting Field in Mequon, Wis.

Wisconsin Lutheran battled Concordia Wisconsin to a 0-0 first half tie. CUW out-shot WLC 8-1 in the opening 45 minutes as Jon Stewart (Waukesha, Wis./South) made three saves in the first period.

With just under 10 minutes gone by in the second half, the Falcons got on the scoreboard off the foot of Zach Lemler at 54:49. Lemler added another score shortly after at 57:05 to give CUW a 2-0 lead. The score remained that way the rest of the match.

Freshmen Josh Higginson (Lyons, Wis./Burlington) and Jake Semmann (Grafton, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) each recorded a shot on goal for the Warriors. Stewart and Tony Bink (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) combined for seven saves in the net in the contest.

Lemler totaled a match-high five of Concordia's 19 shots, while adding both scores unassisted. Goalkeeper Enrique Alvarado saved a pair of shots to earn the shutout in the net for the host Falcons (11-4-1, 7-0-1 NAC).

Wisconsin Lutheran (5-9, 2-6 NAC) returns to the pitch on Wednesday when it hosts Concordia University Chicago (3-12, 2-7 NAC) in a 7 p.m. NAC matchup at Warrior Field.
