SHEBOYGAN, Wis. - The Wisconsin Lutheran
College women's soccer team was defeated by Lakeland College 1-0
Saturday afternoon at Muskie Field in Sheboygan, Wis.
The opening half saw no scoring as the Muskies out-shot the
Warriors 7-0 in the opening half. Great goalkeeping from freshman
Sarah Luebke (Kaukauna, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) preserved the
scoreless half into the break. Luebke stopped two shots in the
first frame.
Lakeland's Dana Schmidt scored 15:29 into the second half off an
assist from Kristina Borts to give the Muskies the 1-0
advantage.
Lakeland controlled the shot column in the second half,
out-shooting WLC, 7-3. The Warriors did apply pressure, however, as
all three of their shots were fired on the net.
Sophomore Niki DiSalvo (Waterford, Wis./Waterford) and freshmen
Maggie Gartner (Springdale, Ark./Har-Ber) and Laura Kent (Iron
Mountain, Mich./Iron Mountain) each recorded a shot for the forest
green and white. Schmidt led LC (5-13, 4-7 NAC) with six shots, two
of which were on goal.
Luebke was outstanding in the net, notching six saves while
keeping the score close all afternoon. Muskies keeper Katelyn
Streeter finished with three saves to earn the shutout.
The Warriors (2-15, 2-9 NAC) look to close out their season on a
winning note when they travel across town on Wednesday to face
Alverno College (6-13, 2-9 NAC). Game time between WLC and the
Inferno is set for 3 p.m. at Alverno Athletic Fields.
