CLERMONT, Fla. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
softball team suffered losses to Rhode Island College (9-1) and
Bethel University (Minn.) (11-3) Tuesday on its second day of
competition at the National Training Center Spring Games.
The Warriors dropped the first game of the afternoon to the
Rhode Island College Anchorwomen (2-3) by a final of 9-1 in a
run-rule shortened five innings. Sophomore Katie Timm (Franklin,
Wis./Franklin) was responsible for WLC's only run of the game after
she hit her second homerun in as many games.
WLC battled the Bethel University (Minn.) Royals in its second
contest of the day. BU jumped ahead 2-0 in the top of the second,
but not before WLC came back in the third with two scores of its
own to tie the contest at 2-2 on a double by freshman Emily Snider
(La Crosse, Wis./Luther). Bethel responded the following frame with
two more tallies to its total to jump back in front, 4-2. The
Royals (4-5) then used a five-run fifth inning to break the game
open, 9-2.
Wisconsin Lutheran's final run of the game came in the sixth
when senior Katie Sloan (Omaha, Neb./Nebraska Lutheran) doubled
home freshman Mindy Schalinske (Burlington, Wis./Shoreland
Lutheran), who reached on an error earlier in the inning. The game
was called after six complete via the eight-run rule.
Sloan was credited for two of WLC's four hits in the
contest.
The Warriors (1-3) will enjoy Wednesday off before resuming
action at the National Training Center Spring Games Thursday
afternoon with matchups against Keene State (3:30 p.m.) and
Fitchburg State (7:30 p.m.).
