CLERMONT, Fla. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
softball team opened action Friday afternoon with a 2-1 victory
over Salve Regina University (2-7), before falling to Bowdoin
College (2-4) 8-2 in its second game of the day at the National
Training Center Spring Games.
In the opening game of the day, Salve Regina scored first in the
first inning off back-to-back singles. The Warriors answered in the
bottom of the second. Junior Morgan Dittmar (Oostburg,
Wis./Manitowoc Lutheran) led off the inning with a double and
sophomore Lauren Mantz (West Bend, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran)
then stepped to the plate and hit a sacrifice fly that scored
Dittmar for the RBI.
In the fourth inning with two outs, Mantz singled and then
reached second on a wild pitch. Sophomore Daetona Laurence
(Wildomar, Calif./California Lutheran) followed with an RBI single
for WLC's final run of the game.
Defenses from both teams battled to hold the remainder of the
game scoreless. Sophomore Katie Timm (Franklin, Wis./Franklin)
earned the win in the circle after striking out four batters.
Laurence posted a 2-for-3 performance with an RBI to lead the
Warriors at the plate.
In the second game of the day, Bowdoin had a big third inning
and scored four runs to go ahead of the Warriors 6-1. WLC was
unable to answer at the plate and fell by an 8-2 final.
Wisconsin Lutheran (3-5) closes out its spring break trip at the
National Training Center Spring Games Saturday afternoon when its
faces the University of Southern Maine and Carroll University at
11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., respectively.
