CLERMONT, Fla. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
softball team fell to the College of St. Scholastica 8-0 and
Carroll University 8-3 Saturday in its final day of competition at
the National Training Center Spring Games.
The Warriors and Saints opened their first game of the day with
scoreless first and second innings. CSS then jumped in front in the
third by plating four runs on four hits for a 4-0 lead. The Saints
followed their four-run frame by adding two runs in both fourth and
fifth innings on two hits. WLC had a tough time generating offense
off Saints pitcher Jen Falk. The Warriors had two hits in the game,
coming off the bats of freshman Jocelyn Bykowski (Greendale,
Wis./Greendale) and sophomore Katie Timm (Franklin, Wis./Franklin).
The game ended after four and two-thirds due to run rule. Timm
fanned six Saints, but also walked six in the circle for Wisconsin
Lutheran.
In their final game of the week, the Warriors fell behind early
to their non-conference rivals from Waukesha. WLC chipped its
deficit away and closed within 5-3 before CU plated its final three
scores. The Pioneers capitalized on miscues by the Warriors
defensively and scored five unearned runs in the game. Despite
taking the loss in the circle, freshman Kendra Thomas (Jenison,
Mich./Jenison) had a solid outing for WLC. She struck out eight
Pioneer batters in seven innings of work.
Wisconsin Lutheran (3-7) next returns to the diamond Saturday,
March 26 when it opens its home schedule against Northland College.
The non-conference doubleheader is scheduled for 12 p.m. at Warrior
Field.
