MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 overtime non-conference contest
to the Beloit College Buccaneers on Tuesday night in the home
opener for WLC at Warrior Field.
Beloit's Molly Dickson opened the scoring at the 20:05 mark in
the first half when she scored off an assist from Emily Ebner and
Camilla Jackson. Despite being out-shot 15-3 in the first half, the
Warriors made their shots count by tying the match five minutes
later when sophomore Maggie Smith (Elkhorn, Wis./Elkhorn) put a
header past the Bucs keeper at the 25:35 mark on a cross from
freshman Sarah Kolander (Brookfield, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran). The
game remained tied through the end of the first half.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the second
half. The Warriors were narrowly out-shot in the period by the
Bucs, 8-6. With the game still tied after 90 minutes of play, BC's
Erin Chambers scored the game-winning goal 4:35 into overtime to
give the visitors the victory.
Smith paced the Warriors offensively with four shots and
sophomore Cari Westover (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) added three.
Sophomore goalkeeper Mel Lemke (Brookfield, Wis./Central) made 12
saves in the net.
Dickson recorded nine shots for Beloit (2-4) and goalkeeper Alex
Spirov had three saves.
Wisconsin Lutheran (0-7) continues non-conference action on
Saturday when it travels to North Central College (3-2) in
Naperville, Ill. The match is set to start at 1 p.m. at
Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.
