MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
men's soccer team was edged by Concordia Wisconsin 1-0 Monday night
in its final regular season home game at Time Warner Cable Stadium
at Uihlein Soccer Park.
The Warriors and Falcons played a tightly-contested first half
before the visitors struck first at the 32:09 mark when Kyle Sytsma
netted his ninth goal of the season off a pass from Ryan Carey. CUW
was credited with five shots, while the Warriors totaled four in
the first half. Falcons goalkeeper Sam Ische made two opening-half
saves to keep the Warriors off the scoreboard. WLC goalkeeper Jon
Stewart (Waukesha, Wis./South) did not have to make a save on any
of the other four shots he faced in the half.
The second half would not see any scoring from either team as
CUW narrowly outshot WLC, 7-5. Stewart kept the Falcons from
scoring a second time by making three saves in the half. Ische
stopped two shots on goal from WLC.
Teffie Joyce (Green Bay, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran), Reed Luengen
(Slinger, Wis./Slinger), and Jake Semmann (Grafton, Wis./Kettle
Moraine Lutheran) each fired two shots to lead the Warriors, who
finished with nine shots for the game. The Falcons (10-7-2, 8-2-0
NAC) received three shots from a trio of players, while Ische won
his 10th game of the season in net.
Wisconsin Lutheran (11-7-0, 6-4-0 NAC) closes out its regular
season schedule Wednesday when it travels to Aurora, Ill., to
battle the Spartans (11-5-1, 7-2-1 NAC). The game between WLC and
AU is set to start at 2 p.m. at Vago Field.
