MILWAUKEE - Wisconsin Lutheran College junior
forward Nicole DiSalvo (Waterford, Wis./Waterford) netted her third
goal of the season as the Warriors shutout Alverno 1-0 Tuesday
night at a muddy and fog-filled Warrior Field.
The win guarantees the Warriors at least a .500 record, a feat
that has not been accomplished since the 2002 season.
The game was scoreless until the 28:17 mark when Sarah Kolander
(Brookfield, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) launched a corner kick and
found DiSalvo who was there for the score to give WLC a 1-0
lead.
The Warriors dominated play in the opening 45 minutes as they
recorded 12 shots compared to just one for the Inferno. Alverno
goalkeeper Samantha Robinson made seven first-half saves to keep
the margin at one.
In the second 45 minutes, the Warriors again controlled the
shots column by outshooting Alverno 7-2 and held a 19-3 advantage
for the game. Warriors goalkeeper Kate Gucinski (Appleton, Wis./Fox
Valley Lutheran) did not need to make a save en route to her fifth
shutout of the season.
Cari Westover (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) led Wisconsin Lutheran
with seven shots. Alverno (5-13-0, 1-11-0 NAC) got one shot from
three different players and 11 saves from Robinson.
Wisconsin Lutheran (8-7-3, 5-5-1 NAC) will conclude its 2012
season Wednesday when it hosts Concordia Wisconsin (13-4-0, 9-2-0
NAC) at Warrior Field. The Warriors and Falcons will begin play at
4 p.m.
