MEQUON, Wis. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
men's soccer team saw its season come to an end Sunday as the
sixth-seeded Warriors were defeated by third-seeded Concordia
Wisconsin 2-0 in a Northern Athletics Conference Tournament First
Round game at Fitting Field.
The Warriors and Falcons played a scoreless opening half as WLC
goalkeeper Jon Stewart (Waukesha, Wis./South) made three first-half
saves. The host Falcons outshot the Warriors 9-4 in the first
half.
CUW reached the scoring column just over seven minutes into the
second half when Kyle Sytsma scored at the 52:08 mark. James Kroll
assisted the Sytsma tally that gave the Falcon a 1-0 advantage.
The Falcons added a second goal with under four minutes
remaining in the contest as Keegan Van Dusseldorp netted an
unassisted goal at the 86:47 mark for a 2-0 CUW lead.
The Warriors tallied more shots in the second half as they
attempted eight compared to seven for CUW. Austin Drake (East Troy,
Wis./East Troy) led WLC with four shots. Stewart finished with four
saves for the Warriors.
Concordia Wisconsin (11-7-1) was led by Sytsma and Jacob Pope as
each player finished with four shots. Sam Ische recorded four saves
to pick up the win in net for the Falcons, who advance to play at
second-seeded Aurora Wednesday.
Wisconsin Lutheran concludes its 2012 season with an 11-9-0
overall record and a 6-5-0 conference record. The 11 wins set a
school record, while the six conference victories tie a school
record. The conference tournament appearance was the first for WLC
since 2007.
