ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College men's basketball team fell to Hamline 92-86 in overtime Saturday in a non-conference game at Hutton Arena.

The Warriors were able to hold a slim lead for most of the first half, pushing that lead to as many as eight points at the 6:58 mark on a Nate Bauer (Lake Mills, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) free throw. Hamline chipped away at the Warriors' lead and was able to pull ahead going into halftime, 46-43, after Noah Aguirre hit a three-pointer with two seconds remaining in the half.

Bauer led WLC with 11 points in the first half, including a perfect 7-for-7 from the free-throw line. Taylor Chladek (West Allis, Wis./Nathan Hale) added nine points off the bench on 3-for-3 from behind the arc.

Russell Strutz (Sturtevant, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) was able to give the Warriors their first lead of the second half when he drained a three-point basket at the 13:05 mark. Strutz then added a pair of free throws to push WLC's lead to 65-58 two minutes later.

With less than 10 minutes left in regulation, Hamline's Ryan Walsh was able to tie the game at 65-65. However, WLC responded with a 10-2 run, capped off by a Strutz three-pointer with 4:22 left. Aguirre answered again for Hamline, connecting on a three-pointer to tie the game at 78-78 with 10 seconds left. After a last second three-point miss from WLC, Aguirre was fouled with .2 seconds left, but failed to make both free throws and the game was sent to an extra frame.

Julion Griffin (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) scored the first four points in overtime to give WLC an 82-78 lead. Hamline responded, however, with a 14-4 run to close out the final 3:39 of overtime and earn the victory.

Bauer tied for a game-high 20 points, highlighted by 14-for-15 shooting from the free-throw line. He also added four rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Strutz added 16 points, while Griffin contributed 14 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Kyle Stelse (Jefferson, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) scored 10 points and pulled down seven rebounds off the bench for WLC.

For the game, Wisconsin Lutheran shot 43.8 percent (28-for-64) from the floor and outrebounded the Pipers 46-30. However, the Warriors turned the ball over 26 times which resulted in a 32-21 points off turnover margin in favor of Hamline.

Aguirre led Hamline (1-0) with 20 points. Dior Ford added 19, while also leading the team with nine rebounds. HU connected on 54.1 percent (33-for-61) of its shots, including 13 made three-pointers.
