LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Wisconsin Lutheran
College men's basketball team received 22 points from senior Tim
Demuth (Franksville, Wis./Racine Lutheran) as it defeated Linfield
(Ore.) 78-73 Sunday at the D3hoops.com Classic at South Point
Arena.
The Warriors and Wildcats played a back-and-forth first 8:20 as
the two teams were tied at 14-14 after a Sam Kuehl (Lake Mills,
Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) three-pointer evened the score with 11:40
remaining in the first half. From that point, the Warriors
outscored Linfield 25-15 the rest of the half as they took a 39-29
lead into halftime. Demuth had 10 first-half points to lead all
scorers at the break.
The WLC lead hovered between six and 10 points for a majority of
the second half until the Warriors built a game-high 13-point lead,
68-55, with 3:22 remaining. The Wildcats did not go away easy as
they cut the lead to three points, 76-73, with 21 seconds
remaining. Demuth hit two clutch free throws with 15 seconds left
as Wisconsin Lutheran left with the 78-73 victory.
The Warriors shot the ball extremely well from the floor as they
knocked down 45.1 percent (23-for-51) of their shots, including
connecting on 43.7 percent (7-for-16) of their three-point
attempts. WLC also made 25 free throws in the victory. Linfield
ended the game shooting 45.3 percent (24-for-53) from the
floor.
Demuth poured in 22 points to lead Wisconsin Lutheran. The senior
guard was very stellar from the charity stripe where he made
9-of-11 attempts. Senior Nate Bauer (Lake Mills, Wis./Lakeside
Lutheran) added 19 points, while sophomore Kyle Stelse (Jefferson,
Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) chipped in with 13 points off the bench.
Sophomore Brett Lubbe (Las Vegas, Nev./Faith Lutheran) also grabbed
a team-best 10 rebounds.
Linfield (2-9) was led by Andrew Batiuk's game-high 27
points and team-high eight rebounds. Brandon Harris added 10 points
for the Wildcats.
Wisconsin Lutheran (5-8, 2-3 NAC) will return to action
next Saturday, January 5 when it faces Maranatha (2-7, 0-4 NAC) in
conference action. The Warriors and Crusaders will tip-off at 4:15
p.m. at Maranatha Gymnasium in Watertown, Wis. Live audio and live
