MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
softball team swept conference opponent MSOE on Friday in a
Northern Athletics Conference doubleheader at Warrior Field. The
Warriors won game one 6-2 and game two 11-6.
In game one, MSOE was the first to get on the scoreboard, taking
a 1-0 after the fifth inning. Junior starting pitcher Katie Timm
(Franklin, Wis./Franklin) kept the damage to a minimum, stranding
three MSOE runners. WLC answered back in the bottom of the fifth,
scoring twice to take the lead at 2-1. Freshman Dayan Gacgacao
(Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young) drove in sophomore Kelsi Daffner (Two
Rivers, Wis./Manitowoc Lutheran) to tie the game and later scored
on sophomore Emily Sievert's (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) RBI single
to take the lead.
MSOE answered back with a run of its own in the top of the sixth
to tie the game at 2-2. In the bottom of the inning, sophomore
Jenny Rechlicz (West Allis, Wis./Nathan Hale) singled home
sophomore Jinny Curtis (Muskego, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) to take
the lead at 3-2. The Warriors added three more insurance runs in
the inning to push the lead to 6-2.
Timm recorded a 1-2-3 top of the seventh to earn the win for
WLC, allowing just two earned runs on five hits. Gacgacao led the
Warriors offense, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored.
Rechlicz went 1-for-3 with one RBI and a run scored.
Jessica Iverson took the loss for MSOE, giving up four earned
runs on nine hits through six innings. Annie Thomas and Kailey
Lietzke each had a hit and RBI for MSOE.
MSOE was the first to score again in game two, plating one run
in the top of the first. In the bottom of the inning, Curtis
doubled home Gacgacao and then scored on Sievert's RBI single to
take a 2-1 lead. WLC tacked on another run in the bottom of the
third when sophomore Jocelyn Bykowski (Greendale, Wis./Greendale)
singled home Gacgacao.
In the bottom of the fourth, WLC pushed its lead up to 7-1 with
four more runs, led by Curtis' two-run single. MSOE and WLC each
scored once in the fifth before MSOE scored four runs of its own in
the top of the sixth to cut the Warriors lead to 8-6. The Warriors
responded with three more runs in the bottom of the inning,
highlighted by a run and two more RBI from Curtis to bring the lead
back up to 11-6.
Timm picked up her second win of the day, letting in just three
earned runs in seven innings while striking out six. Gacgacao went
3-for-3 with four runs scored, while Curtis went 3-for-4 with five
RBI and two runs scored.
Sarah Altene let in all 11 Warriors runs and fourteen hits to
take the loss for MSOE (6-28, 5-17 NAC). Julie Windish went 3-for-4
with a run scored, with Altene and Courtney Leaf each added a run
and RBI.
Wisconsin Lutheran (13-23, 7-15 NAC) will play in its home
finale on Sunday with a doubleheader against NAC opponent Concordia
Wisconsin (20-14, 15-5 NAC). First pitch from Warrior Field is
scheduled for 12 p.m.
