MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin
Lutheran College softball team dropped its final two home games of
the 2012 season against Concordia Wisconsin on Sunday afternoon at
Warrior Field. The Falcons took game one 4-3 and then won the
second contest 9-0 in six innings.
The opener saw CUW put up one run in each of the first three
innings as the visiting Falcons recorded a two-out RBI in each of
the first three frames. In the first and third innings, it was
leadoff batter Chelsie Strosina who reached base to start the
inning and later scored on a pair of RBI singles from Abbie
Goetsch. Concordia Wisconsin added a run in the sixth inning to go
up 4-0.
The Warriors would not go away easily however as they plated three
runs in their final at-bat and advanced the tying run to third
before CUW recorded the game's final out. Jenny Rechlicz (West
Allis, Wis./Nathan Hale), Lauren Mantz (West Bend, Wis./Kettle
Moraine Lutheran) and Andria Wolske (Eau Claire, Mich./Grace
Christian) scored the three runs for WLC.
Katie Timm (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) took the loss in game one
despite throwing a complete game for the Warriors. The junior
right-hander struck out one and scattered eight hits over seven
innings. Jamie Schuh picked up the win for CUW after throwing a
complete game of her own, striking out eight and not allowing an
earned run.
Rechlicz, Timm, Mindy Schalinske (Burlington, Wis./Shoreland
Lutheran) and Dayan Gacgacao (Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young) all
tallied hits for the Warriors in the opener. The Falcons were led
by Goetsch who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Game two again saw Concordia Wisconsin (24-14, 19-5 NAC) score in
the first inning when Goetsch recorded an RBI groundout that scored
Strosina and gave CUW an early 1-0 lead. CUW would add two runs
each in the third and fourth innings and four in the top of the
sixth to take game two 9-0 in six innings.
WLC received two hits from Emily Sievert (Mukwonago,
Wis./Mukwonago) in the second contest and also got 1-for-1
performances from Jocelyn Bykowski (Greendale, Wis./Greendale) and
Wolske. The other hit for WLC in game two came off the bat of Kelsi
Daffner (Two Rivers, Wis./Manitowoc Lutheran) when she roped a
double in the fifth inning. CUW was led by Goestch again as the
first basemen went 3-for-4 with three RBI in game two.
Timm took the loss in the second contest as she went all six
innings and fanned two. Danielle Burke picked up the complete game
win for CUW, striking out six.
Wisconsin Lutheran (13-25, 7-17 NAC) will conclude its season on
Tuesday when it plays in a non-conference doubleheader against
North Park (20-18). First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at the Holmgren
Athletic Complex in Chicago, Ill.
