CHICAGO - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
softball team concluded its 2012 season on Tuesday with a
doubleheader against non-conference opponent North Park. WLC lost
game 4-1 before dropping game two 11-0 in five innings.
The Warriors were the first to strike in game one, taking a 1-0
lead in the top of the third. Sophomore Emily Sievert (Mukwonago,
Wis./Mukwonago) doubled home junior Katie Timm (Franklin,
Wis./Franklin) to give the Warriors the early advantage.
Timm was able to shutout North Park until the bottom of the
sixth when the host Vikings rallied for four runs. WLC was unable
to answer in the top of the seventh as the Warriors fell 4-1.
Timm took the loss for WLC, letting in four earned runs in six
innings while striking out four. Sievert went 1-for-2 with one RBI,
while Timm went 1-for-2 with a run scored and junior Lauren Mantz
(West Bend, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) also recorded a hit.
Courtney Lucht earned the win for North Park, giving up just one
earned run on three hits and adding seven strikeouts. Megan Bura
went 2-for-3 with one RBI and a run scored, while Paige Massa went
2-for-3 with an RBI.
In game two, North Park exploded for seven runs in the bottom of
the first to take an early 7-0 lead. North Park added one run each
in the second and third innings to push its lead to 9-0. WLC had a
chance to get on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth, but left
two runners on base to remain scoreless. The Vikings added two more
runs in the bottom of the inning to bring their lead to the final
of 11-0.
Sophomore Jocelyn Bykowski (Greendale, Wis./Greendale) took the
loss for the Warriors, giving up eight earned runs in three
innings. Sophomore Jinny Curtis (Muskego, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran)
went 2-for-2 at the dish. Sievert, Timm and sophomore Mindy
Schalinske (Burlington, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) also added hits
for WLC.
Casey Latal picked up the win for North Park, giving up just
three hits and no runs in three innings. Katie Anderson went
3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored. Melissa Abraham added a
2-for-3 performance with two RBI.
The Warriors finish their season with an overall record of 13-27
and a 7-17 record in the Northern Athletics Conference.
