WAUWATOSA, Wis. -
The Wisconsin Lutheran College men's soccer team was unable to
overcome a slow start as they fell to MSOE 4-1 Saturday in a
Northern Athletics Conference game at Hart Park.
The Raiders came out strong as they tallied two goals in the
opening 18:59, both off the foot of Patrick Gathof. Gathof scored
his first goal at the 8:57 mark off an assist from Matt Braden and
then netted his second goal, this time off a Logan Andryk assist,
at the 18:59 mark giving MSOE an early 2-0 advantage.
The two Gathof goals would be all the scoring in the opening half
as MSOE held an 11-2 advantage in shots in the first 45 minutes of
play. Warriors keeper Jon Stewart (Waukesha, Wis./South) made four
first-half saves, helping keep Wisconsin Lutheran within striking
distance.
Much like the first half, the Raiders scored quickly after the
break, this time 1:53 into the second half when Jordan Werner
scored off a Noah Wild-Corbeil pass, giving the host Raiders a 3-0
advantage.
WLC cut into the lead when sophomore Jake Semmann (Grafton,
Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) netted his team-leading ninth goal of
the season making the score 3-1 in favor of the Raiders. Freshman
Nate Wasser (Lake Geneva, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) was credited
with an assist on the Semmann score. Semmann's ninth goal of the
season places him into a tie for fifth place in the Warriors record
books.
MSOE (8-3-0, 4-1-0 NAC) added an insurance goal when Werner tallied
his second goal of the contest off an assist from Drew Porter for a
4-1 Raiders lead.
The second half shots were tied at 5-5 as Stewart finished with
seven saves for the Warriors, making three in the second half.
Garret Farin made four saves for the Raiders. WLC was led in shots
by Josh Higginson (Lyons, Wis./Burlington) and Reed Luengen
(Slinger, Wis./Slinger) as each player tallied two shots, while
Werner led all players with six.
Wisconsin Lutheran (6-6-0, 1-3-0 NAC) returns to the pitch Tuesday
when it visits Rockford (1-8-1, 0-4-1 NAC) for a conference game.
The game between the Warriors and Regents is set for a 3:30 p.m.
start at Sam Greeley Field in Rockford, Ill.
