Sabres Hand Women's Soccer First NACC Loss

FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Marian scored two of its three goals within a five minute span in the first half as the Sabres defeated the Wisconsin Lutheran College women's soccer team, 3-0, Wednesday night at Smith Field.

MU's Mikaila Johnson and Morgan Ansems netted scoring strikes for the hosts in the 30th and 35th minute to give the Sabres a 2-0 lead that stood until halftime. WLC tallied one shot in the opening stanza, coming from Sarah Kolander (Brookfield, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran). Keeper Kate Gucinski (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) made a trio of saves in the period.

The final tally of the game came from Erica Mora in the 65th minute for the 3-0 final. Meredith Wilson (Neenah, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) recorded the Warriors' lone second-half shot, and Gucinski stopped four shots in the final half.

Brittany Syms registered a game-best seven of Marian's 25 shot attempts for the game. Caitlyn Rosenberger did not have to make a save as she earned the win in net for the Sabres (3-6-0, 2-2-0 NACC).

The Warriors (3-7-1, 1-1-1 NACC) won't have to travel far for their next road game Saturday against MSOE (4-6-0, 2-1-0 NACC). Kickoff between WLC and the Raiders is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. downtown at the newly-constructed MSOE Field.
