Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College softball team swept Alverno College in its Senior Day doubleheader on Sunday at Warrior Field. The Warriors needed just five innings to douse the Inferno as they won 8-0 in the opener, before a 10-3 win in the finale.

The Warriors started off hot in game one as they scored three runs in the first inning. Libby Larsen's (Menasha, Wis./Menasha) single to right field with two outs brought in Dayan Gacgacao (Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young). Jinny Curtis (Muskego, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) then scored on an error and Larsen reached home on a Kendra Thomas (Jenison, Mich./Jenison) single to right field to increase the lead to 3-0.

The Warriors added a run in both the third and fourth inning to extend the lead to 5-0. WLC continued to pad its lead in the fifth when Lauren Mantz (West Bend, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) and Taylor Thern (Hortonville, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) scored off an error duringMindy Schalinske's (Burlington, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) at-bat. Abby Wichgers (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) then scored on an error to end the game early at 8-0.

Thomas collected the win for the Warriors as she pitched all 5.0 innings, allowing only three hits and striking out six. Schalinske and Larsen went 2-for-4 and 2-for-3, respectively, at the dish. Both Schalinske and Larsen scored a run and added an RBI.

Erin Dulek received the loss for Alverno as she surrendered eight runs, 10 hits, and walked three over 4.1 innings. Jamie Villalobos recorded two of the Inferno's three hits as she went 2-for-2 in game one.

The Inferno bats finally came alive in game two as they scored two runs in the first inning, but the Warriors were quick to respond. Schalinske scored from first on an error during the first inning. Gacgacao then scored on a Curtis groundout. Tara Degl'Innocenti (Lisle, Ill./Naperville North) later scored from first on a double to left center by Larsen to make the score 3-2 in favor of the Warriors.

Alverno tied the game with a run in the third, but the Warriors responded once again in the same frame. Jenny Rechlicz's (West Allis, Wis./Nathan Hale) single to second brought in Curtis to give the Warriors the lead. Degl'Innocenti scored on a Thomas sacrifice bunt and Rechlicz scored on the same play on an error by the second baseman. Mantz, who was honored during a Senior Day ceremony between games, then scored as Wichgers got caught in a rundown to make the score 7-3.

The Warriors continued their hot hitting in the sixth. Thern and Wichgers scored on an error early in the sixth. Curtis' groundout to shortstop then allowed Schalinske to score from third to extend the lead to the final score of 10-3.

Thomas again came away with the victory in the circle in the second game. She scattered seven hits, gave up three earned runs, and three walks while fanning eight through 7.0 innings. Schalinske went 1-for-3 and scored two runs in the nightcap. Curtis also added two RBIs and a run.
