Box Score 2 SHEBOYGAN, Wis. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College softball team swept Lakeland College, 6-4 and 7-5, in its conference doubleheader matchup on Wednesday at Muskie Field. The Warriors jumped out early in game one and came from behind in game two en route to sweeping the Muskies.
The Warriors put five of their six runs on the board during the first three innings of the opener. Led by the key hitting of Mindy Schalinske (Burlington, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran), who went 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs, the Warriors were able to put runners in scoring positions in bunches. Junior Jenny Rechlicz (West Allis, Wis./Nathan Hale) led the Warriors in game one with three hits in four trips to the plate. She also added one RBI in the top of the third inning, bringing Libby Larsen (Menasha, Wis./Menasha) safely home. Kendra Thomas (Jenison, Mich./Jenison) drilled an RBI singled to center in the fifth inning to help score Larsen from second for the Warriors' 6-1 lead and final run of the game.
Thomas pitched a complete game for the Warriors as she grabbed her ninth win of the season in the circle. The junior hurler fanned five while allowing four runs on six hits.
Erin Henk went all 7.0 innings for the Muskies in the game one loss. She gave up six runs on 12 hits, fanning four batters along the way. Heather Haeflinger went 2-for-2 with two RBIs for Lakeland (11-17, 7-8 NAC).
Lakeland's bats got hot early in game two as it put the Warriors in an early deficit. Led by Ashley Hough, who went 4-for-4 during the game, the Muskies jumped out to a 5-2 led through three innings.
Schalinske continued to stay hot as she went 2-for-2 from the plate along with Rechlicz's 2-for-4 performance. Jinny Curtis (Muskego, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) added two hits and two RBIs to keep the Warriors in the game. WLC was able to get some clutch hitting from Tara Degl'Innocenti (Lisle, Ill./Naperville North) in the top of seventh inning as they trailed 5-4. She blasted a one-out, three-run triple to center giving the Warriors the lead and eventually the victory.
Thomas pitched all 7.0 innings for the Warriors, fanning two batters on her way to her second win of the day and 10th of the season.
Melissa Noll was handed her ninth loss from the circle on the season after surrendering seven runs on 10 hits.
Wisconsin Lutheran (14-12, 8-8 NAC) hosts Concordia University Chicago (14-19, 10-8 NAC) on Thursday in a key Northern Athletics Conference doubleheader at Warrior Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
