Box Score MILWAUKEE – Northern Athletics Conference Pitcher of the Year Emily Mahoney tossed the first perfect game in NAC Tournament history as the third-seeded Dominican University Stars defeated sixth-seeded Wisconsin Lutheran College, 8-0, in the opening game of the conference tournament Thursday at Alverno Field.
Following a scoreless first inning of play, the Stars plated two unearned runs in the bottom of the second for the 2-0 lead. Dominican's bats heated up in the third when it scored two more runs on four hits for the 4-0 lead. After both teams put zeros on the board in the fourth, the Stars scored their final four runs of the game in the bottom of the fifth on four hits, but all of their runs were unearned.
Junior Kendra Thomas (Jenison, Mich./Jenison) tossed 4.2 innings, allowing eight runs, but just two earned, on 10 hits. She fanned three and walked two.
Mahoney, the recently named NAC Pitcher of the Year, didn't allow a runner to reach base while striking out four in 5.0 innings in the circle. Kaitlin Barajas, Melissa Summaria, and Erica King each had two hits for the Stars (28-11).
Wisconsin Lutheran (19-18) continues tournament play tomorrow at 1 p.m. against the loser of game #4 between No. 1 Aurora University and either No. 5 Concordia University Chicago or No. 4 Concordia University Wisconsin.
