Box Score MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College softball team was eliminated from the 2013 Northern Athletics Conference Tournament Saturday, falling 2-1 to fourth-seeded Concordia University Wisconsin in an elimination game at Alverno Field.
The Warriors were the first team to strike, pushing a run across in the top of the third. Abby Wichgers (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) found her way home on an error forced during a Dayan Gacgacao (Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young) sacrifice bunt attempt.
Concordia Wisconsin also plated a run across via an error, scoring once in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game at 1-1.
The game remained tied into the seventh inning, where the Warriors were unable to break the tie in their half of the inning. In the bottom of the inning, Sara Skarda found a hole in WLC's infield to knock in Alyssa Robison and give the Falcons the walk-off victory.
Kendra Thomas (Jenison, Mich./Jenison) suffered the loss for the Warriors, surrendering a single earned run on just five hits over 6.1 innings. Mindy Schalinske (Burlington, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) and Tara Degl'Innocenti (Lisle, Ill./Naperville North) recorded hits on the day for WLC as each finished 1-for-3.
Melissa Perkins went 7.0 innings, allowing a single unearned run and just two hits to pick up the win. CUW's (27-16) Abbie Goetsch went 1-for-2 with a run scored, while Skarda tallied the only RBI of the game on 1-for-3 hitting.
The Warriors conclude their 2013 season with an overall record of 19-19, including 13-11 in conference play. The 13 conference victories are the second highest in program history, eclipsed only by the 16 reached in 2008. WLC's 19 overall wins tied a program record, also achieved by the 2008 squad.
