Ripon Sends Warriors To Third Straight Defeat

Box Score

MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's soccer team claimed an early lead, but Ripon scored two goals within seven minutes to top the Warriors 2-1 Wednesday at Warrior Field. WLC fell to 2-3-0 on the season while the Red Hawks improved to 3-2-0.

The Warriors took the lead in the ninth minute on an own goal when the corner kick taken by junior Mandy Schnell (Milwaukee, Wis./Martin Luther) was accidentally re-directed into the back of the net by a Ripon defender.

The Red Hawks responded in the 23rd minute when Kaylee Tadych kicked in a loose ball off of a save by Warriors junior goalkeeper Kate Gucinski (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) to tie the game at 1-1.

The game-winning goal followed in the 29th minute for Ripon after Alyssa Kennedy's shot hit the post and was followed in by Brandi Peltier.

Gucinski finished with eight saves for the Warriors. Senior Cari Westover (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) took four of the Warriors five shots as they were out-shot 20-5.

Goalkeeper Sidney Blodgett made two saves for the Red Hawks. Peltier and Alexandra Jirik led Ripon with six shots apiece.

WLC (2-3-0) returns to non-conference action Friday at the 2013 Carthage Battle on the Border against Mt. St. Joseph (0-6-0) at 5 p.m.
