Valiant Effort Comes Up Short Against Eagles On Senior Night

MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's soccer team put forth a valiant effort against Edgewood on Wednesday night, but fell 2-0 to the second-place Eagles on Senior Night at Warrior Soccer Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Edgewood struck first in the 25' of the opening half when Emily Skaer tapped the ball over the Warriors' keeper inside the six-yard mark off a pass from Alisha Nolden for a 1-0 Eagles' lead. 
  • The Warriors kept the Eagles off the scoreboard through halftime and until less than one minute left in the match.
  • The Eagles' Nolden found the goal with a header from a Skaer corner kick with just 0:17 seconds left in the match for the final 2-0 margin.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • The Eagles had a 19-3 shot advantage over the Warriors and a 12-1 shot on goal margin.
  • Hailey Krause (Wauwatosa, Wis./Pius XI) made nine impressive first-half saves and finished with 10 for the match.
  • Helen Joyce (De Pere, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) had two of the three shots for the Warriors and Belle Flucas (Waconia, Minn./Mayer Lutheran) added a shot on goal.
  • Mady Warda was the Eagles' leader in shots with seven, while Skaer added four shots on target and an assist. Sabelle Seabrook made one save in the second-half to post the shutout. 
  • The match marked the final home contest for five WLC seniors; Beth Westphal (Fond du Lac, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran), Megan Henning (Grafton, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran), Mary Kirk (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Lake Country Lutheran), Abby Himm (Grand Blanc, Mich./Homeschooled), and Iraina Nitz (Olympia, Wash./Evergreen Lutheran).

UP NEXT

  • The Warriors will play their first of two remaining road matches on Saturday at MSOE (13-3-1, 8-0-0 NACC). The NACC-leading Raiders defeated Lakeland 6-0 on Wednesday night. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Viets Field. Links to live stats and video will be available at WLCSports.com
