Extra-Inning Rally, Arns' Strong Start Send Warriors To Monday Sweep

FT. MYERS, Fla. – The Wisconsin Lutheran College softball team came from behind in both games on Monday to earn the sweep, scoring 15 runs to defeat Bethany Lutheran in eight innings before besting Wilmington (Ohio) 3-2 at CentryLink Sports Complex.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS

  • After both teams put up five runs in the seventh inning to knot the game at 7-7, Wisconsin Lutheran pounded out eight runs off six hits to defeat Bethany Lutheran 15-8 in eight innings.
  • Taylor Bjork (Horicon, Wis./Horicon) had three of WLC's 11 RBI, going 2-for-5 with a run scored. Kaitlyn Robison (Andalusia, Ill./Rockridge) was 3-for-5 with an RBI and three runs scored. Robison also swiped three bases in the contest. Libby Schellpfeffer (Mayville, Wis./Mayville) continued her hot streak at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI.
  • Rebecca Yniguez (Wildomar, Calif./California Lutheran), Abby Mahsem (South Milwaukee, Wis./South Milwaukee), Brea Johnson (Cumberland, Wis./Cumberland), Abby Akright (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap), Symphony Arguedas (Riverside, Calif./Riverside Poly), and Payton Barker (Elkhorn, Wis./Elkhorn Area) each recorded an RBI for the Warriors in the contest.
  • Schellpfeffer picked up the win, allowing just two hits in 1.1 innings of work. Mahsem tossed 6.2 innings for WLC and struck out 10.

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS

  • Mahsem's sacrifice bunt in the third inning allowed two Warriors to score on a throwing error as Wisconsin Lutheran held off Wilmington for a 3-2 victory.
  • Mahsem was 3-for-3 with two RBI. Cassie Arns (McHenry, Ill./West) notched her second win in two days, pitching 6.0 innings allowing two runs and striking out three. Schellpfeffer picked up her second save of the season, shutting the door in the seventh inning.

FOR THE FOES

  • Rachel Kurtenbach had three hits and three RBI for Bethany Lutheran. Anna Pipenhagen went 2-for-4 and also knocked home three runs.
  • Christina Wickingson took the loss for the Vikings in 4.0 innings of work as she allowed 14 hits and 10 earned runs.
  • Whitney Edwards notched a hit and an RBI for Wilmington.
  • Megan Joyner tossed 5.0 innings for the Fightin' Quakers, allowing one earned run on seven hits in a losing effort.
