Warriors Swept By Raiders On The Road

MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College softball team suffered two close setbacks against the MSOE Raiders Thursday afternoon at MSOE Athletic Field. The Raiders used a three-run seventh inning to take game one 7-6, then held the Warriors to just three hits en route to a 5-0 victory in game two.

  • Records: Wisconsin Lutheran (9-7, 0-4 NACC), MSOE (11-5, 2-0 NACC)

  • After a scoreless top of the first for the Warriors, MSOE put up three runs in the bottom of the inning, powered by three hits, including a triple from Kara McKenna, giving the Raiders a 3-0 lead.
  • WLC responded in the second when Maddie Lindemann (Watertown, Wis.) and Melissa Ericson (Lisle, Ill.) reached base, then scored after Ellen Davis (Greendale, Wis.) smoked a triple to bring the Warriors within one run.
  • Brea Johnson (Cumberland, Wis.) followed Davis' triple with an RBI single to right field, tying the score at 3-3 through two innings.
  • MSOE took back the lead in the fourth when Emily Snow singled to left field, giving the Raiders a 4-3 advantage.
  • Karah Ritacco (Chicago, Ill.) evened the score at 4-4 in the fifth when she ripped an RBI single up the middle, driving in Gracie Wilson (Deerfield, Wis.).
  • The Warriors took their first lead of the game in the fifth after Ileana Fierro (Chicago, Ill.) opened the inning with a single, then Davis reached on a walk. Fierro stole third base and scored after Davis attempted a steal and the throw from the catcher skipped passed the base, allowing Fierro to cross the plate and Davis to reach third.
  • Johnson hit a high foul ball on the next at-bat that was caught, but allowed Davis to score from third base, pushing WLC's lead to 6-4.
  • MSOE used three singles and a walk in the bottom of the seventh to score three runs, taking game two 7-6. 
  • Megan Belongia (Ashwaubenon, Wis.), Davis, and Fierro all posted two-hit games while Davis and Johnson each drove in two runs. 
  • Abby Mahsem (South Milwaukee, Wis.) suffered the loss, allowing six runs over 6.1 innings. 

  • Neither team could get anything going until the bottom of the second inning when the Raiders used a walk and two hits, including an RBI single, to take a 1-0 lead.
  • MSOE added to its lead in the fifth when Emily Snow singled to right field, scoring a run to make it 2-0.
  • The hosts increased their lead to 5-0 in the sixth after three two-out hits, including a double down the left field line that scored two runs.
  • Davis collected a two-out hit in the top of the seventh inning, but the Warriors were unable to do any damage, falling 5-0 in game two.
  • Davis, Mahsem, and Jules Morini (Chicago, Ill.) all tallied hits for WLC in back-end of the doubleheader.
  • Jessie Rago (Elgin, Ill.) suffered the loss in game two, allowing two earned runs over 6.0 innings.

  • Four different MSOE batters collected multiple hits, while Snow and McKenna each drove in two runs.
  • Emily Wiederholt earned the win, allowing five runs over 7.0 innings while striking out four.
  • Emma Megal led the Raiders in game two with three hits and Lauren Stefanczyk drove in two runs.
  • Lorrin Pondo earned the win in game two, allowing just three hits over 7.0 innings.

  • The Warriors welcome Alverno Sunday afternoon for their home opener. The Inferno (8-4, 0-0 NACC) open NACC play Saturday when they face Concordia Wisconsin. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. at Neumann Family Field.
