Record-Setting Round Sends Men's Golf To Dual Win

HARTFORD, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – James Michaelson (Crystal Lake, Ill.) set a new program record with a four-under 68 and the Wisconsin Lutheran College men's golf team set a team low round record with a 294 (+6) as the Warriors defeated Carthage in a dual match Sunday at Washington County Golf Course, 294-304.

  • Michaelson recorded five birdies with just one bogey for a 68 (-4), breaking the program record for low round by one stroke (Danny Behm/2007).
  • Damon Gnewikow (Warrens, Wis.) followed closely behind with a career-low 70 (-2). Gnewikow tallied four birdies on the day.
  • Ben Landvatter (Watertown, Wis.) and Quinn Schultz (Chaseburg, Wis.) fired rounds of 74 (+2) to tie for fifth place. Both scores were new career-lows from Landvatter and Schultz.
  • Derick Disch (Greenfield, Wis.) and Grant Hammer (Germantown Hills, Ill.) tied for ninth place with scores of 76 (+4). The 76 for Hammer was good for a season-low.
  • Johnny Kositzky Jr. (Escanaba, Mich.) tied for a 12th-place finish with a 78 (+6), while Trey Gnewikow (Warrens, Wis.) placed 14th with a 79 (+7)
  • As a team, the Warriors fired a 294 (+6), breaking the program record for score relative to par by four strokes from 2016 and 2015.

  • Carthage, which carded a team total of 304 (+16), was led by Reid Anderson's round of 71 (-1).

  • The Warriors host the 16-team WLC Spring Invitational next Saturday at Morningstar Golf Club in Waukesha. The shotgun start is scheduled for 1:45 p.m.
