Mahsem Twirls Perfect Game As Warriors Sweep Eagles

VERONA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – Abby Mahsem (South Milwaukee, Wis.) threw the first perfect game in program history as the Wisconsin Lutheran College softball team finished off a sweep of the Edgewood Eagles Monday afternoon by scores of 12-0 and 8-0 at Ceniti Park. Mahsem extended her scoreless streak to 30.1 innings as WLC won its sixth straight contest. The Warriors held a 4-0 lead in the third inning Sunday afternoon before the games were suspended due to heavy rain and resumed Monday.

• The Warriors jumped out to an early lead in the first inning as Megan Belongia (Ashwaubenon, Wis.) scored after an error, then Melissa Ericson (Lisle, Ill.) drew a bases-loaded walk to plate Karah Ritacco (Chicago, Ill.).
• WLC added another run in the second inning after a sacrifice fly from Mahsem, scoring Brea Johnson (Cumberland, Wis.) to push Wisconsin Lutheran's lead to three.
• After loading the bases in the third inning, a wild pitch allowed Maddie Lindemann (Watertown, Wis.) to score, then a sacrifice bunt from Johnson plated Ericson. Gracie Wilson (Deerfield, Wis.) followed with an RBI groundout that pushed the visitors' lead to 6-0 after three innings.
• Lindemann delivered a single in the fourth that scored Ileana Fierro (Chicago, Ill.) and Mahsem, then Wilson was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, scoring Ellen Davis (Greendale, Wis.). Jules Morini (Chicago, Ill.) walked with the bases loaded to score Lindemann, giving WLC a 10-0 lead after four innings.
• Mahsem added to the Warriors' lead in the top of the fifth with a solo home run to left field, and Alli McQuistion (Clinton, Iowa) singled later in the inning, scoring Ericson.
• Mahsem led WLC with two hits and three RBI while Lindemann added two hits and two runs batted in.
• Mahsem earned the win in the circle, throwing the first perfect game in program history on just 43 pitches in 5.0 innings. She struck out five.

• Mahsem picked up right where she left off in game one, delivering an RBI single in the top of the first inning, scoring Wilson, who singled to open the game.
• After three scoreless innings from both teams, Davina Gutierrez (Chicago, Ill.) drove in Fierro after an error from the center fielder to increase WLC's lead to 2-0.
• Fierro added to Wisconsin Lutheran's lead in the top of the fifth inning after a single to the shortstop, scoring Wilson.
• The Warriors exploded for five runs in the seventh, powered by a double from Davis that drove in two runs, then three errors from the Eagles, giving WLC the 8-0 triumph.
• Wilson led WLC in game two with three hits and two runs, while Ritacco tallied two hits, including her 100th career base hit.
• Mahsem earned another win in game two, allowing just five hits over 7.0 shutout innings while striking out five batters.

• Maddy Coppens suffered the loss in the opener, with six unearned runs in two innings in the circle.
• Grace Delleman tallied two hits in the second game while Coppens suffered her second loss of the day, allowing two earned runs over 7.0 innings.
