Softball Drops Home Opener To Pointers

WAUWATOSA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College softball team opened its 2021 home schedule on Monday with a single non-conference game against UW-Stevens Point. The Pointers scored four first-inning runs and went onto defeat the Warriors 7-1 at Neumann Family Softball Field.

• Final Score: UW-Stevens Point 7, Wisconsin Lutheran 1
• Records: Wisconsin Lutheran (5-3), UW-Stevens Point (9-4)
• Location: Neumann Family Softball Field, Wauwatosa, Wis.

• The Pointers pushed across four first-inning runs on four hits, including three runs after two outs to take an early lead over the Warriors.
• UWSP added two more tallies in the third inning on a sac fly and RBI single for a 6-0 lead. The visitors scored their final run, unearned, in the fourth on another sac fly.
• After stranding a runner on base each of the first three innings, WLC came through with a run in the fourth on a RBI groundout by senior Charolette Ropas (New Berlin, Wis.) that plated freshman Lexi Martin (Westfield, Ind.).
• Wisconsin Lutheran had one runner reach base over the final three innings and couldn't plate any more runs.
• Freshman Ashley Corley (Plainfield, Ill.) went 2-for-3 for the Warriors, who finished with three hits for the game.
• Sophomore Jena Almodovar (Romeoville, Ill.) suffered her second loss of the season in the circle, pitching two innings and allowing six runs. 

• Sammy Buerger and Sara Traxel each had two hits for the Pointers, who finished with 10 hits for the game. Makenna Tkach improved her record to 5-2 after pitching five innings and fanning four.

• The Warriors continue their nine-game week with a doubleheader at Aurora (10-0) on Wednesday. First pitch from Spartan Athletic Park is scheduled for 3 p.m. Live stats and video links will be available for both games at WLCSports.com.
