Wasiak Scores Twice In Win Over Muskies

PLYMOUTH, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – Sophomore Katie Wasiak (Muskego, Wis.) connected on a pair of goals as the Wisconsin Lutheran College women's soccer team defeated Lakeland 3-1 on Wednesday night at Taylor Field. The Warriors improved to 1-1-0 on the season with their first victory for first-year head coach Maggy Waech.

  • The Warriors struck early in the first half on Wasiak's first goal of the season. Wasiak launched a shot from over 20 yards out that sailed out of the reach of the goalkeeper to give WLC the lead in the fifth minute.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran added to the lead in the 21st minute on a breakaway goal from freshman Lily Phelps (Sunman, Ind.). Freshman Signe Kind (Fort Atkinson, Wis.) was credited with the assist on the play.
  • The WLC defense was strong throughout the first half, allowing just two Lakeland shots with one landing on target.
  • Midway through the second half, the Warriors' lead increased to 3-0 on Wasiak's second goal of the game.
  • The Muskies got on the board in the 80th minute on a free kick from Amanda Buckler that bounced off the right post and into the goal.

  • Wisconsin Lutheran finished with 17 total shots and nine shots on frame. Wasiak led the team with six shots and five on goal including the two goals.
  • Junior Maggie Stebbins (Beaver Dam, Wis.) added four shots with two on goal.
  • Freshman Lauren Butler (West Allis, Wis.) improved to 1-1 on the season with the win in goal. She stopped one of the two shots she faced in 90 minutes in net.
  • WLC won for the fourth straight time over Lakeland in the series.

  • Lakeland recorded five total shots and two shots on goal. Buckler paced the team with two shots on targer. Haley Rich fell to 1-1 after allowing two first-half goals and making three saves.
