Spartans Sweep Warriors In Final Road Match

AURORA, Ill. (WLCSports.com) – In its final road match of the season, the Wisconsin Lutheran College men's volleyball team fell in three sets to Aurora on Tuesday night inside Thornton Gymnasium. The Spartans won by scores of 25-10, 25-13, and 25-13.

  • Records: Wisconsin Lutheran (0-12, 0-10 NACC), Aurora (8-6, 7-3 NACC)

  • The Spartans raced out to an early 11-3 lead in the first set and forced a WLC timeout. Junior Logan Ascher (Waukesha, Wis.) recorded a kill following the timeout, but Aurora's advantage continued to grow. The Spartans closed the set with a 6-1 run and capped a 25-10 win with a service ace.
  • In the second set, Aurora once again took an 11-3 lead, but the Warriors were able to get back within five. A 9-1 run midway through the set helped the hosts extend the lead to 13. The Warriors scored three consecutive points late, with kills coming from freshman Isaac Stellick (Taichung, Taiwan) and sophomore Joe Flett (St. Anthony, Minn.), but the hosts claimed the set 25-13.
  • A five-point run for Aurora in the third set opened up a quick seven-point advantage. Senior Alex Rivera (Milwaukee, Wis.) ended the run with a kill, but another five-point swing for the Spartans allowed the hosts to complete the sweep.

  • Flett paced the Warriors with four kills and four digs while recording a season-high .222 hitting percentage. As a team, Wisconsin Lutheran finished with 11 kills to go along with a -.102 hitting percentage.
  • Stellick totaled nine assists to lead the team.
  • WLC posted six block assists in the match, with junior Sean Daniels (Racine, Wis.) recording a team-high three.

  • Justin Elliott finished with a match-high six kills for the Spartans. Aurora totaled 17 service aces, with eight coming from James Karwin.

  • The Warriors host No. 7 Benedictine (11-2, 10-0 NACC) in their final match of the season on Friday night. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. inside the Recreation Complex. Live coverage links will be available on WLCSports.com.
