Wisconsin Lutheran Falls To League-Leading Marian

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WLCSports.com) –  The Wisconsin Lutheran College men's volleyball team hit a season-high .000 and tied a season-high with 14 kills, but the Warriors fell in three sets to first-place league unbeaten Marian on Friday night by scores of 25-13, 25-9, and 25-14 inside Sadoff Gymnasium.

  • The Warriors held a 5-4 lead early in the first set before a 7-1 scoring run by the Sabres gave the hosts an 11-6 advantage. WLC stayed within five points after kills from junior Sean Daniels (Racine, Wis.) and sophomore Joe Flett (St. Anthony, Minn.), but a 5-0 spurt from Marian sent the score to 20-10 as it won the first set 25-13.
  • WLC trailed by four a 11-7 in the second set, but MU rattled off 12 straight points to put the set out of reach en route to a 25-9 second set win.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran built a 9-6 lead in the third set and forced a Marian timeout. With the Green and White trailing by just one at 14-13, the Sabres scored seven straight points to take control of a close set. MU scored the final four points of the set to win the match in three.

  • Junior Logan Ascher (Waukesha, Wis.) tallied a season-high five kills to lead the Warriors, who matched their season high from their previous match with 14 kills while hitting .000. He also collected seven digs.
  • Freshman Isaac Stellick (Taichung, Taiwan) was credited with 12 assists, matching a season high.
  • Defensively, WLC finished with 19 digs and a season-best eight block assists. Freshman Grant Wempner (Garden Grove, Calif.) finished with three block assists.

  • Derek Wills posted a match-high 10 kills for the Sabres, who hit .379 for the match. 
  • Zach Zelenik totaled 29 assists and Carzell Combs added six digs.

  • The Warriors have a week off before returning home to face Illinois Tech (1-4, 1-4 NACC) in a NACC match on Friday, March 12. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. Live stats and video coverage will be available for the match at WLCSports.com.
