Softball Falls Twice To 16th-Ranked Raiders

MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College softball team held early leads in both games of their doubleheader against MSOE on Sunday, but the 16th-ranked Raiders came back strong to win both games over the Warriors by scores of 9-2 and 9-1 at MSOE Athletic Field.

  • Records: Wisconsin Lutheran (7-15, 0-6 NACC), MSOE (18-1, 6-0 NACC)

  • The Raiders used back-to-back two-out doubles in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead over the Warriors.
  • WLC evened the score at 1-1 in the second when senior Charolette Ropas (New Berlin, Wis.) stole second and the errant throw allowed senior Maddie Lindemann (Watertown, Wis.) to score.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran grabbed a 2-1 lead in the third after junior Aerin Moberg (Wheaton, Ill.) scored from an error that allowed sophomore Jena Almodovar (Romeoville, Ill.) to safely reach.
  • A two-out two-run home run in the third gave MSOE a 3-2 lead. The Raiders then scored six runs on four hits their next half inning to break the game open.
  • The Green and White had a couple hits over the final three frames, but couldn't cross home plate.
  • Lindemann, Ropas, and freshman Bri Biermann (Fond du Lac, Wis.) had two hits each for the Warriors.

  • A two-out RBI single from freshman Lexi Martin (Westfield, Ind.) gave WLC a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
  • MSOE evened the score with a sac fly in its half of the first and added another two-out RBI double in the second to take the lead.
  • A pair of run-scoring singles in the third made it a 4-1 Raiders lead.
  • The hosts tacked on two in the fifth and three more in the sixth to win via run-rule.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran put together two-hit innings in the fifth and sixth, but was kept off the scoreboard.
  • Lindemann, Martin, and freshman Ashley Corley (Plainfield, Ill.) had two hits each in game two for the Warriors.

  • Morgan Long went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored in game one for the Raiders. Lorrin Pondo worked around eight hits and struck out seven for a complete-game win.
  • Delaney Martino paced the Raiders with a 3-for-3 performance at the plate, as the home team tallied 14 hits in game two. Emily Wiederholt allowed one run on eight hits with four strikeouts to earn the win.

  • The Warriors continue their NACC series against the Raiders tomorrow with a doubleheader at Neumann Family Softball Field. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
