Softball Swept By Maroons Thursday At Home

WAUWATOSA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College softball team faced the University of Chicago for the first time ever in a pair of non-conference games on Thursday afternoon. The Warriors fell by scores of 3-2 and 12-3 to the Maroons at Neumann Family Softball Field.

  • Three consecutive singles in the first for the Maroons produced a pair of runs to give the visitors an early lead. Chicago had a chance to add another run, but WLC was able to throw out a runner at home plate to end the inning.
  • Junior Katie Scott (Sallisaw, Okla.) got the Warriors on the board in the second inning with a two-out single down the left field line.
  • In the bottom half of the fifth, junior Aerin Moberg (Wheaton, Ill.) evened the score with a two-out single to center field to score Scott.
  • The Maroons regained the lead in the sixth after a single and an error put two runners on base. A single to center field scored one run to break the tie but Wisconsin Lutheran stranded the bases loaded after getting an infield fly and a pop out to short.
  • WLC got one hit in the final two innings but was unable to tie the game as Chicago won 3-2.
  • Five different players recorded a hit for the Warriors, and Moberg and senior Maddie Lindemann (Watertown, Wis.) each recorded a stolen base.
  • Sophomore Jena Almodovar (Romeoville, Ill.) dropped to 6-7 on the season with the loss, allowing three runs in seven innings in the circle.

  • Chicago scored twice in the first inning via a sacrifice fly and double to left center field.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran answered with three in the bottom half of the inning to take a 3-2 lead. Freshman Ashley Corley (Plainfield, Ill.) ripped a home run to right center and freshman Katie Stoltenberg (Lodi, Wis.) plated two with a two-out single up the middle.
  • The Maroons evened the score on an error in the second and took the lead with four runs in the fourth inning. Chicago connected on a pair of home runs in the fourth, and two more scored on a two-out single to right.
  • The visitors added five more runs in the fifth inning and held the Warriors scoreless in the bottom half of the inning to win 12-3 via run rule.
  • Lindemann finished 2-for-3 with a run scored as WLC tallied five hits. Stoltenberg recorded a pair of RBI to lead the team.
  • Freshman Kacey Mietsner (Elwood, Ill.) was charged with the loss in the circle after allowing five runs (three earned) across 3.1 innings.

  • Lainey Hughes finished 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI in game one. In the circle, Bethany Regnerus got the win and Elizabeth Press picked up the save after throwing a scoreless two innings.
  • Press went 2-for-2 with a double and a home run while also driving in two in the game two win. She also got her third win in the circle, holding the Warriors to three runs in five innings.
